Only then will we be able to discover the real needs of customers and craft solutions that resonate with our target audience.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-ujx9qci elementor-widget elementor-widget-spacer\" data-id=\"ujx9qci\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"spacer.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-spacer\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-spacer-inner\"><\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-ontfh9q elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"ontfh9q\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-medium\">The underlying problem of failed microinsurance products<\/h2>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-lbsx4gm elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"lbsx4gm\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Over the past decade, I&#8217;ve witnessed many smart and innovative microinsurance products that have failed to take off. <\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is a shame. The usual focus is on a middle- or high-income target audience.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So crafting microinsurance products has often relied heavily on assumptions. That&#8217;s no more than \u2018educated guesses\u2019 about customer needs, their ability to pay, and also about distribution partners.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There is no point wasting your time and resources developing a product that nobody wants. The insights you need are out there and waiting for you to find them. Of course, you cannot expect people to be able to come up with innovative solutions for something that they don\u2019t know exists. \u00a0<\/p><p>A much better entry point would be to understand the risks that poor people face. This can be done through interviews and, more importantly, observing people&#8217;s behaviour.<\/p><p>Human Centered Design, a methodology designed to build solutions from people&#8217;s problems, calls this the inspiration phase.
